The Province of Groningen, the German state of Lower Saxony, the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment, DB Netz AG and ProRail have all joined forces within the Wunderline project with the intention of improving the quality of the railway connection between the cities of Bremen and Groningen, thus contributing to the social economic enhancement of the northern border region. In 2016 a steering group representing the abovementioned parties was installed.
March this year two steering group meetings were held, both led by the Chairman of the Wunderline steering group Fleur Gräper-van Koolwijk and steering group member Daniela Behrens (State Secretary of Lower Saxony). During these meetings, governmental officials along the Wunderline were offered a detailed presentation of the results of the Freight Transport Potential of the Wunderline report and its consequences for the Wunderline project. In addition, several other agenda points were covered such as the latest developments regarding potential transport flows research and the social cost-benefit analysis as well as regarding the pending socio-economic quality study.
